The Sui blockchain is currently down, with transactions \u201cpaused\u201d for almost three hours, at the time of writing. The outage is the network\u2019s third in 18 months.<\/p>\n

Sui\u2019s status page<\/a> shows an ongoing \u201cmainnet settlement\u201d incident the cause of which, despite the issue having been identified, the team hasn\u2019t disclosed.<\/p>\n

However, activity<\/a> in Sui-developer Mysten Labs\u2019 GitHub repository appears to show developers working on an emergency fix.<\/p>\n

According to Sui block explorer Suiscan<\/a>, transactions have been stalled since 13:48 UTC.<\/p>\n

Sui Mainnet is currently experiencing a network stall. The Sui Core team is actively working on a solution.<\/p>\n

Sui Network, the spiritual successor<\/a> to Meta\u2019s planned cryptocurrency, Diem, was launched in 2023, just a year after the latter was abandoned.<\/p>\n

Since then, Sui has faced a two-hour outage<\/a> in 2024 as well as six hours of disruption<\/a> in January this year. Additionally, the network\u2019s main exchange, Cetus, was hacked for over $200 million<\/a> last year, wiping $1 billion off SUI\u2019s market cap.<\/p>\n

The network bills itself as \u201chigh-performance\u201d and is often compared to Solana as a fast, high-throughput alternative to Ethereum. Indeed, Solana was at one point well-known for its intermittent outages<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other blockchains, so-called \u201clayer twos\u201d which focus on scaling the Ethereum ecosystem, have also stuttered recently.<\/p>\n

Last year, Coinbase\u2019s popular Base network went offline for 44 minutes<\/a>, and Starknet turned itself off<\/a> and on again twice in one day.<\/p>\n
