Former Alameda CEO Caroline Ellison and FTX co-founder Gary Wang have been slapped with a five-year trading ban by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) today.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The supplemental consent order was handed<\/a> down in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It requires Ellison and Wang to continue their cooperation with the CFTC. <\/p>\n

Ellison and Wang must also refrain from registering with the commission for 10 and eight more years, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ellison and Wang\u2019s trading ban resolves CFTC action\u00a0<\/h2>\n

The CFTC\u2019s announcement said, \u201cThe initial and supplemental consent orders resolve the CFTC\u2019s enforcement actions against Ellison and Wang.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ellison was sentenced<\/a> to two years in prison back in September 2024 and was released from custody in January 2026.<\/p>\n

Wang received<\/a> no prison sentence and was handed three years of supervised release.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pair agreed to help authorities in their case against FTX, and as the CFTC noted today, their punishment reflects \u201ctheir material assistance in the commission\u2019s FTX-related investigations.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

FTX mastermind Sam Bankman-Fried will remain in prison\u00a0<\/h2>\n

FTX\u2019s main man, Sam Bankman-Fried, is still in prison and isn\u2019t due to be released until 2044.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In June, Bankman-Fried applied<\/a> for a pardon after spending months trying to court President Donald Trump. In that same month, an appeals court rejected<\/a> his attempt at overturning his conviction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The US Senate has formally recommended<\/a> that Bankman-Fried should not receive a presidential pardon.<\/p>\n
